Tvrđa

Through the turbulent past of the city on the Drava from Mursa to Esseg until the time of the Turkish rule, we come to the time when the Austrian authorities, after the victory over the Turks, began work on strengthening the damaged Turkish military fort.

At the beginning of the 18th century, work officially began on the military fortress, today's Tvrđa. At that time, the Fortress was the military, economic, cultural and administrative center of the city of Osijek. The buildings have Baroque elements in their architecture and are one of the best-preserved Baroque buildings in Croatia.

A walk through the Fortress takes us back in time with its beautiful facades, squares and monuments. Small stone streets and old lamps will make a night walk unique and above all romantic. Surrounded by parks and on the northern part by a promenade and the Drava river, it gives every traveler the opportunity to enjoy and rest. A visit to one of the two museums, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Slavonia, will give you a rounded picture of the history of the city and its wider area.

With expert guidance, you will enjoy the stories that will vividly describe the everyday life of the old town, where almost every building has its own story.
